Iestyn Davies as Francisco de Ávila, Frédéric Antoun as Raúl Yebenes, and Christian Van Horn as Julio in Adès' 'The Exterminating Angel'.

Hailed by the New York Times as "inventive and audacious", The Exterminating Angel is a surreal fantasy about a dinner party from which the guests can't escape. A group of mostly self-involved upper-class individuals are invited to a lavish, late-night dinner hosted by the cultivated Edmundo de Nobile and his wife, Lucia. They experience some dark magic at work and are driven to their extremes.

A pair of young lovers engages in a suicide pact, an old man wastes away and dies, and the most aggressive guests threaten to murder their host in rage. As the intentions of their hosts become clear, civility declines leading to tragic and explosive results.

'The Exterminating Angel' will be transmitted live at Carib 5 on Saturday, November 18, at

11:55 a.m. Tom Cairns, who wrote the libretto, directs the new production, and Thomas Ades conducts his own adventurous new opera.

The opera features Sally Matthews as Silvia de Avila, Iestyn Davies as Francisco de Avila, Audrey Luna as Leticia Maynar and Antoun as Raul Yebenes.
